Jitters
I took the header photo just below the south rim of the Grand Canyon in 2005 on my way up after a day of crossing from the north rim by way of the North Kaibab trail to Phantom Ranch and the Colorado River, South Kaibab trail to the Tipoff, Tonto trail to Indian Gardens, and Bright Angel trail to the south rim. Unfortunately, just after arriving at the rim, I walked into a tree in the darkness in the parking lot and went to the Park hospital for 6 staples in my scalp. The doctors were very nice, in spite of being delayed a half hour from going home on a Friday night. A better ending for the day would have been dinner at El Tovar lodge with friends. I would have settled nicely for dinner at the Wendy’s next to the Imax. Actually, I did make dinner at the Bright Angel lodge and kept my hat on to hide the shaved spot. Cold water did wonders to get the blood out of the hat. As an occasional custom I take my own pillow on road trips and got it bloody instead of the motel’s. If you want to see the tree it’s just east of the mule corral next to the Bright Angel cabins and has a four inch long broken branch just at forehead level. A tip: you can save the cost of a doctor’s visit by removing staple with fret removing nippers. You just cut the staple in half in the middle so the two separated halves can be pulled out and apart without any twisting or bending.
The first comment posted sounds just like what happened to me today. Wait a minute. It is what happened to me today. I just put it in the wrong spot. Well, it’s my first ever blog entry. I can’t even find my way around to read blogs, let alone write them.
